Mamdani had a terrible performance. He desperately ran to the center and barely broke 50 against a sex pest and a perennial loser despite having the support of the Democratic establishment. I personally like him but Mamdani would not even win statewide office in New York
Not only that, Spanberger got 57% in VA and Sherrill got 56%. Mamdani got 50%, in NYC. It’s really not an impressive performance.

50% of those who voted picked Mamdani because they wanted to invest in his vision for New York City. Cuomo wasn't a candidate, but a fallback for people who didn't want that vision. When this election is framed like that, it makes Mamdani look genuinely impressive.

I'm sure that our poorly covered municipal races will be better covered when everybody is focused on the presidential race and top level statewide contests!
FWIW, Odd year elections are a disgrace and every election should be in a presidential year unless it can't be moved due to our shitty constitution.

Generally, people want lower grocery prices, but not economic protectionism. They want better immigration policy, but not their local taco truck guy grabbed off the street by masked men. They want rescue, but not the one Trump is undertaking.
The beating Republicans took last night has a simple explanation... most prices are higher than they were a year ago. Inflation hasn't receded as was promised. That's what people care about, it's why Trump won. He's failing, and his tariff love is gonna crush Republicans.
Of all the Trump precincts in NYC, Mamdani won fewer than 10 percent. 40 out of 790. There are very, very few Trump-Mamdani voters. There are waaaaaaaay more Trump-Sherrill and Trump-Spanberger voters.
