The energy return on energy investment of coal + carbon capture is worse than renewable energy adjusted for the quality of the energy. Full stop. And now renewable bids are coming in at the MARGINAL cost of firing EXISTING fossil fuel capacity. Game over.
And with this, the entire argument to use fossils with carbon capture (e.g., clean coal), natural gas, or nuclear VANISHES. Any of those projects now a proven waste of resource-an opportunity cost that will only limit deployment of cheaper wind&solar, increasing carbon&pollution
