Fun Fact - paint is HEAVY The classic orange we know and love on the space shuttle external tank and now on SLS comes from its insulation. The shuttle was supposed to be painted white but they they saved 600 LBS by not painting it. Thus we have space orange 🚀🚀
The NASA crawler has been updated many times. During my time leading Shuttle program we had to replace many of the one ton ‘shoes’ due to cracking. Also the radiators. Fun fact, crawlers cannot turn around so the same end always faces the beach and gets the salt fog corrosion.
