I'm happy to announce that our work on the Lol system of Bacteroidota and its implication in gliding and Type IX secretion is finally online! nature.com/articles/s4200…

Unlike Boeings, LolCDE is built tough. Took a lot to break this lipoprotein transporter! See the latest from the lab in @mbiojournal journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mb…

Congratulations to Dr Hannah Smith from @GrabowiczLab who was awarded her PhD today!!! Awesome!!!

When "normal" (rod-shaped) bacteria lose control of cell division, their length changes. How can we find "cell shape" mutants in Staph, which is round pretty much no matter what? Does this different shape need different envelope factors? Come find out! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I’m very excited to share my first graduate school paper that was recently published in @wileymicrobio Thank you to the entire @GrabowiczLab for their support!

Our first #AlphaFold wow moment! Lipoproteins like NlpE detect cell envelope stress, but how? @J_Marotta decided to find out, discovering a key loop in NlpE. Mutants can’t activate the CpxA sensor kinase to signal stress. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…

Elegant solution for a big problem. Very nice work

New! Gram- cells need lipoproteins to build their surface. LolA & LolB deliver these in E.coli. But many species only have LolA - where's LolB? For Caulobacter, LolB is... LolA! It's a bifunctional protein! We can even tweak E.coli LolA to do double duty! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
