It echoes earlier @HDRM_Project papers in highlighting that health workers should feel valued and heard in the workplace. This is even more important when their organisations are undergoing significant change.
Delighted to announce our latest paper. It’s about public health doctors in Ireland, their reflections on working through the pandemic and the work-related change that followed. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Agreed. Also when Irish emigrants tell researchers why they left and explain what might encourage them back, policy must respond. I'm not convinced we've done that yet in relation to hospital doctors working conditions #DrRetention …an-resources-health.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Like many emigrants, the reality is that I am more invested in Ireland than the country I have moved to
Imagine if Irish hospitals were nice places to work. There would be no staff shortages. Yet for some reason the answer is always beatings will continue until morale improves. Listening to recent ‘health debates’ has been bad for my own health!!
'It suits some people to say medical staff and other Irish workers come for the lifestyle. . . Not the hard truth, which is that people feel let down by Ireland enough to leave it'. 100% agree @parkinsbrea irishtimes.com/life-style/peo… #DrRetention

Today Aus (Ahpra) announced a fast-track registration process for Irish-trained specialists (GPs, anaesthesia, obs & gynae, psychiatry) seeking to move to Aus. In 2024, 624 Irish doctors (mostly non-specialists) obtained Aus work visas. IRL needs a policy on #DrRetention +return
