Adoptive mum, psychotherapist, very interested in adoption-related mental health and attachment
Insightful conference today regarding adoption relationships and connections. As a second-family mum and now first-family grandparent I feel this issue from both sides. #OpennessInAdoption
Many thanks to @researchIP for publishing a piece about child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse this month #CAPVA #CPV researchinpractice.org.uk/children/news-…

Recognising child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse
What is child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse?
I thought I saw a tweet from someone doing a PhD on compassion fatigue in adopters…? Can anyone tell me who this is please?
Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby: “Those who serve will be loved and remembered longer than those who cling to power and privilege are long forgotten”.

Parents fear making an announcement that they won't accept violence any longer: child could get aggressive, put them down... Haim Omer: It's when the parent does something they didn't think they could do, they feel their strength and presence grow. But they need support. #NVR
I feel for you. Some days the feelings can be very difficult to bear. Be kind to yourself. Relationships can change as the years pass.
I have just come across the term #AmbiguousLoss - physical absence with psychological presence. I grieve for our teen and our former family life. He is alive. #Familyviolence #ChildToParentViolence #cpv
I’m really interested in the adopter preparation element. In my research many adopters were not given the information needed to understand risk and to request appropriate support for the entire family.
Policy makers, practitioners, and prospective adopters need to use information about risk factors to make realistic and properly resourced plans for the support children may need, continually or episodically, after they have been adopted.
Parental support is so critical - not just helping them to address what’s happening within the home but also to heal from it.

Thank you, I agree 100%. It’s terrible to feel frightened and on edge at home, the place that should always be safe.

How do you support those of us who are trying our best to connect with children who feel this deep hopelessness?
John Baylin reflecting on 'Blocked Hope' . Where hopelessness is a safer place for some traumatised CYP; a way 2 survive & endure living without hope, comfort or relationship. Suppressing the need for comfort/ joy easier than deal with the pain of hoping to be loved. @coursewedo
I’m reading Wallin’s ‘Attachment in Psychotherapy’ and wishing my pre-adoption preparation had been much more substantial #adoption #attachment
"Between stimulus and response there is space". Excellent mindfulness program, so many strategies that are useful for adoptive parents! Thank you Monash University @DGPMonash #Mindfulness
