This is not a protest against racism. This thuggish lawlessness seeks to create division, attacking our British Police force which serves to protect and keep ALL communities safe. As someone from an ethnic minority background - this is Not. In. My. Name.
It's been three weeks since our lockdown was eased and there has been no evidence of any increase in new infections. In fact, the numbers continue to decline - surprising many! We have to stay vigilant but in my view this is an extremely positive sign for the coming weeks.
Prof Hugh Pennington, a microbiologist, has written an excellent piece putting to bed this idea that we're doomed for a repeat of the Spanish Flu's second wave. Seen a lot of tweets on this. Fortunately this isn't 1918 and it's not a flu. 'The virus is eradicable' - well said.
It's potentially the most critical day of the pandemic today - we're taking some big steps forward. The lockdown is not over. Following the rules has never been so important. We've made some great progress, but we need to consolidate it. Please be sensible.
The best measure to deal with this pandemic is isolating people who have the virus. If you have symptoms, please isolate and then get tested. Going about your daily business while showing symptoms is so dangerous and quite frankly, extremely selfish.
Really encouraging to read Dr María Neira, the WHO Director for Public Health, say their models are showing a second wave being increasingly ruled out. Caution required, but she thinks that the virus will have a hard time surviving. The most optimistic the WHO have been!
Slovenia has become the first European country to officially call an end to its Coronavirus epidemic. They started easing the lockdown on April 20 and there are absolutely no signs of a second peak. Great news - they should give us all hope that it can be done.
Morning rant! Yes am sure our Gov’t have made mistakes, as have many others. But sitting in studios/ behind keyboards pointing them out is not hard. Similar to fans pointing out player’s mistakes during games. All so easy when the pressure is not on you. Maybe try to help instead
