Building great neighborhoods in our cities and towns

We are pleased to support #AB1406 by @AsmChrisWard to facilitate more badly needed infill condo construction in California. Read our support letter: councilofinfillbuilders.org/wp-content/upl…

Looking forward to working with @BuffyWicks and her committee colleagues to find solutions to reducing costs for infill housing!

California won’t solve its housing crisis unless we reduce construction costs. Our new Select Committee on Housing Construction Innovation will explore tools & technologies that can help us build more homes, faster and more affordably. 🔗 Press release: a14.asmdc.org/press-releases…

California needs more home ownership opportunities in infill areas. But for-sale condo construction is way down compared to other states. Read our new policy brief with legislative ideas to fix the problems and boost condo construction: councilofinfillbuilders.org/wp-content/upl…

We urge the California Legislature to maintain funding for affordable housing & transit in any cap-and-trade reauthorization through 2045. Read our coalition support letter here: councilofinfillbuilders.org/wp-content/upl…

Couldn’t agree more with @CSElmendorf: being pro-housing and pro-urban quality of life go hand-in-hand. This is why the @InfillCouncil regularly partners with groups like the Independent Hospitality Coalition and fights hard for things like by-right sidewalk dining.

We're not arguing that YIMBY groups should fold up shop! Our point is just that their agenda (esp. at the city level) would benefit from integration into a broader governing coalition.

Pleased to see AB6 pass the Assembly Appropriations Committee today!

Building codes can inadvertently thwart good infill development through inflexibility, inconsistent enforcement, and poor design. That's why we support AB 6 @AsmChrisWard to convene a state working group to explore fixes. Read our support letter here: councilofinfillbuilders.org/wp-content/upl…

Read board chair @mottsmith interview in @PlanningReport on why Measure ULA's transfer tax on LA properties over $5M has crushed apartment and commercial infill development in the City, as well as municipal tax revenue: planningreport.com/2025/05/06/ca-…

How do steep transfer taxes like L.A.'s Measure ULA and Santa Monica's Measure GS kill permitting? Look at Santa Monica. 2023: 593 units permitted 2024: 30 units permitted (95% drop) Poorly designed transfer taxes kill housing.

How are transfer taxes impact housing production in other cities? Guess what year San Francisco implemented it's "mansion tax?"

#SB79 would legalize more multifamily infill housing near transit throughout California. Read our support letter: councilofinfillbuilders.org/wp-content/upl…

LA’s Measure ULA passed with good intentions: tax high-value property sales to help low-income renters. But the early evidence is sobering: transactions have collapsed, revenues have fallen far short, and housing projects are harder to build.
