It is often difficult to know if you have done enough security work for a project to be safe, or even if you have secured the right angles. In my first article for OP Labs, I describe how we answered those questions for our interop release, critical for our roadmap. 🧵

Base and OP Labs successfully activated the Ecotone hardfork on their respective Goerli devnets, and today enabled posting of batches via EIP-4844 blobs. Here's the Base goerli-devnet batcher, you can see recent transactions are "type 3" (== Blob type). goerli.etherscan.io/address/0x5339…

Most important thing is here - the more you try to break the proof system on goerli, the faster it goes on mainnet. Plz help the Collective by breaking things while they're still on testnet.

Modern processors block you from executing nonexistent instructions. But early microprocessors like the Intel 8086 (1978) didn't check for illegal instructions. Running one could provide hidden functionality or even give access to hidden registers you couldn't otherwise access.🧵

You will live in an L2, you will consume the blobs, you will own nothing (on L1), and you will be happy.

EIP-4844 is shaping up to be the next major upgrade to Ethereum. Once blobspace is unlocked for L2 use, the cost of rollup L1 transactions is expected to reduce by at least 20x. Our own @Inphi wrote a summary of this massive community-led effort to date: dev.optimism.io/eip-4844-an-op…
