Below the Surface of Recovery – With Grebes!

All the grebes are washed — a milestone worth celebrating! 🎉 Now our team is focused on conditioning and identifying which birds will need surgery before they can be released. Every day of care is possible thanks to your support.

Pictured here is Alice holding a grebe during the 1971 Standard Oil Spill, the event that would inspire her to found International Bird Rescue just months later. In honor of #WorldKindnessDay, help us reach our goal, now matching up to $25,000 thanks to our anonymous donors!

Recognize the signs of a healthy grebe and an oiled grebe. Grebes’ bodies are not adapted to walking on land - if you see one stranded on the shore, it needs help! If you’re in Santa Barbara or Ventura County and see a bird in distress, call 866-SOS-BIRD
