Corn and Soybean harvest got underway last week on most of our Managed Farms. Initial yields look positive, even though much of Iowa has been under drought conditions during the growing season--which is a testament to the plant genetics needing less water to produce a crop.
Earlier today, USDA released the Drought Monitor (as of July 4, 2023). Drought conditions continue throughout much of Iowa, with nearly one-third of Iowa considered to be in an area of Severe Drought or Extreme Drought.
Although drought conditions persist throughout Iowa, the corn on our Managed Farms is off to a good start for this growing season. Timely rains will be key as we move towards pollination.
El Niño conditions are present and are expected to gradually strengthen into the Northern Hemisphere winter 2023-24. An #ElNino Advisory is now in effect. cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analy…
