Active transport infrastructure, done right, is health infrastructure. Ireland deserves world-class infrastructure—invest in it, and the benefits will be endless!

My response to @EamonRyan’s recent brilliant piece on cycling infrastructure in today’s Irish Times. #ActiveTransport

What a ridiculous take. Drink driving kills, but so does speed. Total waste of paper/internet publishing this. PS: It’s the government lowering speed limits, not the RSA.

The RSA is lowering speed limits, but will it make roads safer? Anton Savage argues that drink driving and reckless behaviour—not speed—are the real problems being ignored businesspost.ie/arts-living/an…

Imagine something like this in Dublin, Galway, Cork, or Limerick. If only we had bold, brave politicians and engineers willing to stand up to the car lobby.

50 years ago, a transport revolution started in #Zürich. #Switzerland rejected urban freeways. Zurich decided not to build a metro, opting for an S-Bahn commuter train network. And they gave *absolute* priority to trams over cars in center of Zurich. The result? 🇨🇭🚋🧵

Storm Eowyn: A wake-up call for Ireland 🌍 Record-breaking winds, massive power outages, and disrupted lives. Is this the new normal? The climate crisis is here, and we know the cause—us. The solutions are clear, but are we ready to act? medium.com/@irishdocsenv/…

🧖‍♀️ Saunas are fantastic for reconnecting with blue spaces, boosting outdoor time, and improving mental and physical health. ⛔️ The lack sea swimming in Dun Laoghaire makes this project a missed opportunity. #BlueHealth 🌊

First impression: a fantastic idea! The 15-20 floating saunas in Oslo, where you can dive straight off the pontoon into the sea, are amazing. But then it hits you—if you can’t swim in the sea at Dun Laoghaire, what’s the point of a floating sauna? independent.ie/regionals/dubl…

The type of railway station we deserve in Ireland!

Just arrived in Berlin for the @die_gruenen weekend Congress, and that's an impressive Hauptbahnhof Railway station. With elections one month away here I'm looking forward to the debates. gruene.de/artikel/partei…

“The evidence is undeniable. Slower speeds save lives. Better cycling infrastructure saves lives. Fewer cars in city centres save lives. A 30kmh speed limit isn’t some Orwellian plot to ruin your life, it’s an attempt to salvage a bit of sanity.” - @GerHerbert1

Tobacco lobbyists really have the good of your lungs, not profit, at heart.

Went for a hike in Glendalough yesterday. The amount of deer was terrifying. The complete absence of natural predators is wreaking havoc on our ecosystems, with overgrazing and biodiversity loss becoming more serious by the day.

Glendalough is stunning—the valley, the rivers—but like many Irish nature reserves and NPs, it struggles: overgrazed forests, unnatural tree plantations, too many deer and feral goats. A glimpse of Ireland's potential, but it remains an unbalanced, unhealthy ecosystem.

The main barrier to public transport is not price, but quantity and quality. However, it would be nice to see employers such as the @HSELive subsidise public and active transport instead of providing free parking to staff. businesspost.ie/news/employers…

Despite the 2:1 investment ratio, Irish transport emissions keep rising. Now, the incoming government plans to scrap it, prioritising cars over people and the planet. Imagine the damage this will do to our health and future.

To the incoming Irish government: Abandoning the 2:1 public/active transport investment ratio is a grave mistake. Active and public transport saves lives, cuts emissions, improves health, and reduces healthcare costs. Investing in roads over people is a step backwards!
