Tonight, I made the mistake of looking at the dates on the files for my current books. On the one hand, wow, nice to see the progression. On the other hand, holy shit I've sunk a lot of time into these, lol.
I was just thinking about how Minority Report had targeted ads using biometric data running real time in public. Sadly, it's only a matter of time now - totally nailed it decades in advance. But then I also think: how deep does that rabbit hole go? How smart do the signs get?
I made a discovery while editing and thinking about dashes. Due to some personal quirks, I actually use British style en dashes and never noticed. I've blended American and British English for YEARS and no one told me. This is what happens when your proof-readers are Canadian.
Some days you look at an intended project and think, "that's totally doable, I can do that. It won't take *that* long." Other days you realize that's probably how GRRM once felt.
A few videos I've seen about how to tell if something was written by a human or not have made me very aware of how many em dashes I use. Fortunately, every comments section is filled with other writers having the same problem. So, hey, not alone.😅
Every once in a while, I get the strong urge to just shut down for a bit and binge something then tell myself that if it's in the right genres I can consider it "research". It's a wonderful cope.
Remember a few years ago when there was a serious debate about whether amputees could have an unfair advantage in races because of specialized running legs? Thinking about cyborgs, I find myself amused with the idea that eventually they're going to have to regulate specs.
Thinking back over my lifetime, there's always that one seemingly futuristic business trend everyone invests in like a lottery ticket for a few years before it implodes and maybe 2~3 survive. I wonder how many have that moment of clarity: "crap, we're the bubble, aren't we?"
What I can say about my (unintentionally) self-imposed exile is this: I should be releasing at least one book this year - probably even two. ...and then I've been laying out the groundwork for like... 18 more... I have a problem.
Been working for a while on a few projects I'm hoping to roll out this year. Have to remind myself to start getting active on social media again. Probably shouldn't have stopped in the first place but, honestly, I got a little lost in writing... again... I'm bad at this part.

Retreating from social media wasn't exactly something I did intentionally, it just kind of happened. Still, I actually understand why people do it. There's a little peace to just zoning out to your current project. Unfortunately, I've been working on like... five...
I often wonder how people function without caffeine, then I think back on the history of mankind... Thousands of years between the wheel and electricity, hundreds of years between coffee and cellphones. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. But it gives me an excuse.
Sometimes I wonder what my search history looks like to big brother. One day I'm looking up witchcraft, the next day I'm looking up anything from weapons to criminal charges for some sketchy shit. One can hope they stop to look at my bibliography before I end up on a list.
Sometimes I come back from a bit of a hiatus and I find really weird DMs from bots. This time one of them tried to offer me access to a crypto account. I'm not even sure how that scam is supposed to work.
