One of my core beliefs: All kids are homeschooled. Some just do it full time.
Feynman’s joke nails something education still struggles with: we test for whether students know something, not how deeply they know it. Real understanding isn’t binary.
“What was that Feynman joke with the French curves again?” my older kid asked me as he was finishing up his Math Academy work. I read "Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman!" to them before they started calculus, so the bit with the French curves, where he catches his college…
7k likes on a post about spaced repetition?! I like this place.
A redditor used spaced repetition to teach his kids how to read. Results: - 4yo daughter could read at 5th grade level - 3yo son could do 12x12 times tables
This is the modern day equivalent of human sacrifice.
Most convincing argument for private schools I’ve ever read
Recess offers exclusive access to the best teachers on the planet. Jesse has 245k youtube subscribers who turn to him to learn Blender. Now, your kid can learn directly from Jesse himself. This is not a pre-recorded class; it's a live cohort.
Curiosity is a form of caring. Children are very caring and curious as they have fewer preconceived notions and expectations. Deviations from telling what is going to happen next (ie by explaining "why") are often frustrations as they are roadblocks in the way of the story.

Reason & Rationality Intro Video
Do you want your child to have the license to be a hero? The Hero License Pod, details below, in the Westlake region of Austin, has openings for a few more students ages 5-6. The founders are considering growing it into a micro school all the way through elementary school.…
I have an impulsive youngin, and I'll absolutely be stealing this phrase.
A super-bright 5th grade math student from years ago was also super-impulsive. Despite warnings not to “rush into battle without a sword,” he rushed to wrong answers constantly, berating himself afterwards. How did I teach him to slow down? I didn’t. My warnings never worked.…
Rule 1: Don't waste kids' time.
The poor allocation of time in school is fundamental to its dysfunction. It might be the most fundamental pathology at the level of implementation. Think about how different college is just in terms of scheduling. Much more natural. You’re in class much less than half the time.
It's unconventional in alt ed circles to support standardized testing, but I'm on board! The problem is that the information isn't used to help support the individual student and that the prep and administration of it crowds out time that could be better spent.
This is the biggest improvement we could make to education as a driver for healthy social development.
Mixed-age classrooms are *rocket fuel* for learning and development. Montessori discovered this by accident, and then made it core to her approach. Here's why a mixed-age environment is so powerful—for the youngest, the oldest, and every child in between:
While I don't think we should view every "learning" experience like this, I DO believe we should practice this in educational settings. If you want kids to learn certain things, you better make darn sure you do it well, otherwise you're breaking rule #1: Don't waste kids' time.
I think the one thing I'd want *good* teachers to know is that: You can deliver the best explanations, checks for understanding, feedback and independent practice in the world. BUT If you don't have a plan for long term memory, retrieval and repetitions...it's all for nought.
Yep. What he said.
Teaching isn’t merely about academic credentials. It’s a live performance that exceptional educators–whether they have a degree or not–uniquely master. Many acknowledge extraordinary educators like Jaime Escalante, known for creating a leading AP calculus program at an East…
The suggested 20 year timeline seems very likely. However that period of time will be long enough to demonstrate the efficacy of other ways of teaching and learning that modernizes and re-humanizes the field of education. So still worth it.
Grok 3 knows that a "school choice" plan like SB3 will quickly devolve into private schools sharing the same regulatory burden as public schools do today. Here's the analysis: x.com/i/grok/share/3…
