Too many kids fall behind during math lessons because they don't know their math facts. Don't let this happen to your child this year. Send them to FactFreaks, the website I created to get my students up to speed with all 400 basic facts. It only takes a minute to play, they can…

Last week I had a frustrating conversation with a co-teacher. Yesterday I told another co-teacher about @sharemath's Fact Freaks website. When I saw her today, she said that she's already had all her students create accounts! Bright spot in my week and it's only Tuesday.

How can you make sure your child masters basic math regardless of the teacher they happened to get this year? And how can you do it without pricey tech or tutoring, and without having to do the heavy lifting yourself? See YouTeachYou.org and FactFreaks.com!

I implore educators to look into Predictive Processing, the modern learning theory related to how AI learns. Not only does it provide insight into how individual students learn; it describes what they need to do so. It could change everything.

My daughter mentioned last year at the end of 6th that she was "not getting fractions" so I bought the fractions book and she completed it over the summer. As a 7th grader, she just took a math test on fractions and she got an A. She is much more confident and capable now and I…

Lately there’s been a lot of talk among educators about Predictive Processing, a new theory about how humans learn related to the way AI learns. The theory suggests that we form mental models from multiple examples and then revise and shape these models based on continuous…

Want to teach your child math? Want to do it the easy way, with an example for everything? Want it to be a wonderful bonding experience instead of a source of friction? The time has come. See YouTeachYou.org.

The time for teaching your child math (the easy way) has already come. See YouTeachYou.org.

There was once a time when people thought teaching your 4 year old child to read was A) impossible B) cruel C) soul crushing But now lots of people do it, and it’s a fun bonding experience. The time will come for math, I promise you that!

Great story from a #RealTeacher. What a wonderful experience for both student and teacher. I was an #EnglishCreature, but I love to see #learning everywhere -- even in MathLand!!😅

Years ago, I piloted a single-semester “math lab” course designed to get our middle schoolers caught up with the basics, using a self-paced, self-explanatory, example-based curriculum I was creating. “TWO periods of math a day??” a student protested on day one. I tried…

Years ago, I filled in for a 6th grade math teacher for three months, covering his five classes per day. Since I wasn’t the “real” teacher, some kids were anticipating three months of nothing but chilling with their friends. “You better not make us do math!” one threatened. She…

I love these stories by @sharemath

I taught Basic Skills math for a year. In one of the rooms on my rounds, there was a student with a 1-to-1 aide. Often during seatwork, she would say “I don’t get it!” and he would say “I don’t think you’re trying to get it.” At the time, I was inclined to agree with him. Years…

Always so good to hear! I designed the You Teach You math series to be non-intimidating and self-explanatory, so that all students can get a hold of math for themselves. It still chokes me up when I hear of a student saying "Oh, I can do this!" Thanks for sharing!

We just got the first workbook. I thought my teen would immediately look at what I was showing her (we are going to just start at the beginning no matter how basic for her and go up) and lock up as always at the sight of worksheets. She said “yeah I think I can do this.” 😳

"I didn't hear the explanation! I was copying the example!" is what this sounds like in the classroom.

It's good/encouraging that CLT updates itself. But, really, who wouldn't have known that the transience of a spoken narrative of a static visual would overwhelm many listeners' WM? Anyone? What... no one in the team had a clue?

The overload created by transient teacher explanations/narrations as examples are being presented (& copied) is obvious considering the number of resulting misunderstandings (& copying mistakes). The problems of split attention and redundancy are clear from the teacher's side.
