This is how idolatry / addiction work. The initial perceived benefit each time is positive (though declining). But eventually every additional use is negative. At that point, however, you're so stuck you keep using. This is where we are with the idolatry of the virtual world.
A remarkable study. Most young people would prefer for themselves and their peers to not be on social media. In fact, they hate it so much that they'd be willing to pay to make this happen. But they are stuck on TikTok and Insta because everyone is on it.
