Ministry & Leadership Training for Pentecostal/Charismatic churches from the Apostolic Church UK

Our students are thinking about putting sin to death this week with the help of three Johns: John Owen, John Calvin & John Stott.

Ministry training cannot be all about “activating gifts”. (Though it must also be that!) Students need a broad and robust foundation, and that includes the history of the church.

Our church history module has started this week by going back to the early church to explore orthodoxy and heresy, as well as persecution and martyrdom.

Thanks for the invitation, @Jonathan_Black_ I had a thoroughly refreshing time! It’s amazing what God is doing with @ActsDivinity and in the lives and ministries of the students. Looking forward to an even more flourishing future as God continues to equip His church.

It was great to be joined by @iamjosephola at the weekend for our residential. He also helped us launch the church history and spiritual formation modules by highlighting some lessons from the life of Anthony of Egypt.

Here’s a peak at a little bit of what goes on at our ACTS Divinity residentials…

We’ve had a wonderful ACTS Divinity December Residential. Such a wonderful privilege to work with these students! (And the few who are missing from the photo too!)

Pentecostals and psalm singing? Yes indeed.

“My cup overflows and I’m graciously fed.” Psalm-singing Pentecostal divinity students at this morning’s Breaking of Bread.

In the space of one seminar today the students & staff of ACTS Divinity were transformed into a Psalm-singing choir. By the end of class a student was able to pick a Psalm number & the whole class immediately sing it. And we learnt to chant one straight from the Bible too.

What goes on at an ACTS Divinity residential? Here’s a thread from our Principal on what’s happening as this weekend unfolds.

First day of the @ActsDivinity residential complete. Exams finished. Lots of Nicene Creed. New first years met in real life. Everyone leant to sing an a cappella metrical Psalm. Communion. Prayer together.

The upcoming term’s spiritual reading book is ready to plunge our students into some early Pentecostal spirituality with the help of D.P. Williams.

“The man who grows in grace is the man who grows in knowledge, and the man who grows in knowledge is the man who keeps close to God through his Word. For spiritual progress this is the secret: ‘Thy Word have I hid in my heart.’” —W.H. Griffith-Thomas

‘There is in the Sacrament of Breaking of Bread an eating in faith of the Word, the Living Bread, bringing health to spirit, soul and body. Frequently, when partaking of the Communion, renewed life and healing have been appropriated by the saints.’ —Ap Frank Hodges of Hereford

D.P. Williams has been helping out with some of this week’s teaching.

Apparently my sudden joy when D.P. Williams appears on the screen has brought joy to the heart of some of my students.

Our New Testament class are in John’s Gospel this week, thinking through some issues with our New Testament Tutor, David Mitchell.

Our brothers and sisters at Impact Academy (of The Apostolic Church Nigeria in the UK) had their graduation this weekend and our Principal had the privilege to celebrate with them. May the Lord bless the 21 graduates as they go on to serve Him.

What is the Church? Our ecclesiology class is thinking about that question currently — with a little help from D.P. Williams.

This week Dr Black has been helping our Pneumatology class to think about healing. What’s healing got to do with the resurrection? Is there “healing in the atonement” (and what would that mean)? What about the elders anointing with oil or “healing at the Table”?

One of the great joys for me of these meetings is seeing the growth in hunger and vision for theological training among our churches all over Europe. We now have 9 theology schools across the continent in 4 languages.

Thankful for friends and faithful partners in mission from across this continent as Apostolic Church leaders from all over Europe meet in Rome this week.
