Congrats to @BarefeetSven for his paper now out in @CurrentBiology!! This was an awesome collaboration with Sophie Caron's lab @UUtah. 🧵/The fly Arc proteins also form virus-like capsids, but evolved from a different retrotransposon to mammalian Arc. BUT, dArc1 also /1

I don’t even really like baseball and I can’t stop watching!
Proud of MIT! The government has no business meddling with private universities. Especially those that are the best in the world.
MIT rejects Trump admin higher-ed 'compact' in the most MIT way. A short letter that shows how to issue an institutional response without committee-speak. Bravo.

Agree with this sentiment. Science has become an industry dominated by metrics and dollars. Many/most of do science for the love of discovery and fulfilling our curiosity, but this *love* of what we do is in conflict with hyper-competition and poor incentive structures!
✅✅ A reminder by Dr. Rahaf Ajaj: She wasn’t on the Stanford list… but she made it to the Nobel stage. 🏅 Mary E. Brunkow, one of this year’s Nobel Prize winners in Medicine, has only 34 published papers and an H-index of 21. She never appeared in Stanford’s ranking of the…

Love to see @UCBerkeley & @UCSantaBarbara scientists win the Nobel Prize in Physics! Hate to see the White House celebrating breakthroughs from universities they’re trying to defund.
Congratulations to John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis for winning the @NobelPrize in Physics! Their brilliant work at UC Berkeley demonstrating quantum tunneling in electric circuits has been critical to our understanding of quantum computing.

We’re seeing a deeply concerning drop in international student enrollment. Modeling suggests that if the U.S. sustained a one-third reduction in foreign STEM graduates, it could see a loss of $22–$43.9 billion per year off U.S. GDP growth in the first year alone.

We are losing a generation of scientists that managed to capture the public’s attention. We need more scientists with the same integrity and gravitas as Jane in the public limelight. A big loss 😓
Jane Goodall was a global legend at the forefront of discovery — breaking through barriers for women in primatology, science, and beyond. Her curiosity, strength, and kindness changed the world, bridging countries and cultures in pursuit of a better future.

Just a couple days away from the 2025 Postdoc Rising Stars Symposium! Don't miss this series of talks on the cutting edge of Cell Biology, Chemical Biology and Computational & Multiscale Analysis, and a keynote by Ryan Watts (Denali Therapeutics)!

Finally had some time to process a few camera shots! This was a magical morning on the Normandy coast in France...

Last chance to comment on the proposal to limit student visas to 4 years, making it impossible for foreign students to complete a PhD program in the US—at great loss to our research enterprise, which attracts brilliant youth from across the world: federalregister.gov/documents/2025…
Oh come on! 😓
Continuing efforts to hurt the research pipeline, the very late NSF GFRP solicitation no longer allows 2nd yr PhD students to apply. Many students chose not to apply last year because they were told they would have a better change once in their thesis lab nsf.gov/funding/opport…
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Currently, most/all journals allow an initial preprint at submission but many do not allow updating or a new version after revisions...their justification is that they provide the review(ers).
A big moment for biomedical research publishing: - HHMI preprint mandate. Starting January 1, 2026, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) labs will be required to publish all original research articles that represent major contributions from their laboratories as both…

Me returning to the US…where apparently Tylenol causes autism 🤦🏻
Hey @Delta flight (DL2289) delayed by 2 hrs. Might miss my connection in Detroit to Montreal. Can you send that fancy Porsche to get me on that flight 😅?! #diamondmedallion
