We are excited to present work performed in a long-standing collaboration with @BassellLab! Thanks to @NINDSfunding and @cziscience for support! @UFHealth @EmoryMedicine biorxiv.org/content/10.110… See the following thread for more details:
A study led by @EmoryMedicine researchers could contribute to the development of new therapeutic approaches to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Although considered rare, ALS is the most common motor neuron disease in adults and is growing worldwide. links.emory.edu/ly
Our KIF5A ALS story is online today. This project was initiated with @BassellLab and was carried on by two talented postdoctoral fellows @deveshcp and Janani Parameswaran. It is also not possible without great collaborations with @arnegennerich and @Weishaupt_Lab. Thank you all!
Excited to share our paper #Gain of toxicity in #KIF5A-associated #ALS @emboreports doi.org/10.15252/embr.… Great team effort and collaboration! 🥂 Thanks to entire #kinesin team @Jiang_Lab_Emory @arnegennerich @Weishaupt_Lab @BassellLab lab and @alsassociation for support.
I am excited to announce that I will be opening a laboratory in the Cell Biology Department @EmoryMedicine this coming winter! We will study signal processing in the somatosensory system using mouse genetic tools, electrophysiology, and imaging.
Dr. Qiu @ZhaozhuQ, a faculty member @JHMIPhysiology @HopkinsMedicine, was a postdoc fellow with newly minted @NobelPrize winner Ardem Patapoutian @ardemp 2010-2016, contributing to the discovery and functional study of touch- and volume-sensing ion channels. #WeArePhysiology
Fabulous work from Kevin Guttenplan and Ben Barres! What a legacy Ben left us all - in appreciation for astrocytes and other glia and especially in outstanding trainees.
People have long thought that astrocytes release something that kills neurons, which could partly explain why neurons die in injury/neurodegenerative disease. In a paper that just came out, we think we found one of these long-sought toxic factors! (1/8) go.nature.com/3afi6si
The era of hyper-personalized drugs is upon us. The 1st 2 young girls w/ rare, untreatable neurodegenerative conditions are getting antisense tagged to their specific mutations nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… technologyreview.com/s/615188/dna-i… @timyu @BostonChildrens @NEJM @techreview @Erika_Check
