Here is the final, true distribution of SendouQ Season 1. Lots of work went into this, I'm happy with it. But the neat thing is I can finally debunk the argument I see everywhere online, that skill is distributed normally. It is not, it is distributed log-normally.

just thought about this while on break, please don’t give up on irl opportunities for splatoon or any video game 😭 i love this game and community don’t get me wrong, but i promise a healthy balance of life will make you happier than the constant grind
I know it’s very complex so I’ve tried to explain it as simply as I can here! The neat thing about this is that it constantly recontextualizes your wins, so a win over a team that went on to win the whole tournament will end up having more weight!

How is this not just a metric of production capacity? Pretty much every console is sold out at launch, so it’s pretty close to 1:1 with production capacity.
Analyzing Splatoon 1’s ranking system was one of the first forays into data science that I went into. And now that’s my career! Would never have guessed that the YOURE A KID NOW YOURE A SQUID NOW game would change my life this way!
