Killing #Soleimani isn’t like killing bin Laden, who had masterminded the worst terrorist attack against America. Soleimani was a competitor, who was highly effective in fighting ISIS as well as American interests. Assassinating him seems like a step back to a more savage past.

Things are so bad, so worrying, so filled with hate & anger that we must take a stand for who we are as a nation. We must support the rule of law, & demand decency & respect from our politicians. We must moderate the language of debate. And we must condemn anyone who doesn’t.

EU now watching with bemused disbelief the UK sawing its own leg off while shouting “you’d better watch out or we’ll saw the other one off too and then you’ll be really sorry!”

Surviving after Brexit will depend on being on side with the school bully. Leaving the EU has left us vulnerable to the whims of a madman. We should have stayed in the gang we were in. Especially as we were one of the key members.

What we learned from tonight’s debate : 1. There’s a reason Johnson has avoiding questioning. He looks vulnerable when challenged 2. Hunt, Gove & Javid are scared of Stewart so they all aimed their fire at him 3. If you thought a new Tory leader would end the squabbling ...

I would recommend watching this again and again until you all know it by heart. It’s like the Gettysburg Address but less abstract.

Here's the essential state of English politics in 96 seconds by my colleague @rafaelbehr

Over the last few days people have been asking me not to criticise Boris - arguing that his politics are harmless. This is his first interview. I’m afraid to say these threats on the 39 Billion are undignified. And the threats on the Irish Border are irresponsible...

I’ve often thought Brits should be given a pre-paid invoice after receiving NHS treatment to see what their procedures WOULD have cost privately. We have NO IDEA what hospital treatment ACTUALLY costs. If we did we’d be terrified at the idea of losing the NHS. TERRIFIED.

A friend just sent me her 10 page hospital bill after a straightforward pregnancy and delivery of a well baby. Hospital - $44,375.76 Obstetrician - $8,323 Anesthesiologist - $2800 Total = $55,500 Medical bills are the commonest cause of bankruptcy in the US.

... also the number so far make it far from clear that the entirety of the Conservative vote share loss went to Brexit Party - assuming some Labour to BXP too - then a small but electorally important band of long forgotten Con Remainers went to Libs/CHUK too /3

BXP results make a new Tory leader backing No Deal by Oct 31st position almost certain... But... 9.1 million people just voted for parties explicitly against No Deal (LD/G/L/CH/SNP...) ... vs 5.8m explicitly in favour...(BXP+Ukip) /1

These numbers still have to be verified. But what is striking is that even in strongly Leave areas, there was a pronounced swing from Labour to the Remainy LibDems and Greens. Which gives the lie to view among Labour Brexiters that Labour did badly for not being Brexity enough.

Those final results, expressed as % change from 2015, are remarkable: UKIP: -82% Tories: -24% Labour: -4% Lib Dem: +109% Green: +273% The notion that Tories shed seats because “people just want them to get on with Brexit” doesn’t fly when you look at where those seats went.

What possible justification can @Nigel_Farage @DanielJHannan and the rest have for standing for the EP elections? How can they justify taking a salary and later a pension (paid for by us) for a job they do not intend to do in an institution they do not believe in?

Donald Trump is a bad person. He’s a cheater, a pathological liar, a traitor who colluded with Russia, a criminal who made illegal payoffs, a bully who causes harm to our country daily, a fraud who obstructs justice and yes, he’s absolutely deranged. #DerangedDonald

putting a real comedian in charge might be the best idea yet. I would vote for Hugh Dennis but not I think for Steve punt. The amateurs we have at the moment need to be replaced by a professional!

One million marched last Saturday. Nearly six million have signed the #RevokeArticle50 petition. Latest polls show a 55% Remain majority. And last night the #PeopleVote amendment got the most votes For from MPs. We have all the momentum. Let's keep fighting to stay in the EU.
