#COVID19 observations... Spent today in conversation with people being asked to ‘shield’ by the #NHS as ‘high risk’...it has starkly highlighted ( in case anyone missed them ... 🤷♀️) structural inequalities that will mean certain communities bear the brunt of this crisis 1/
Shameful behaviour from Liverpool staff @ElGatoNegroFood today, who disrupted our vigil in memory of Leonard Farruku. They ordered us to move, despite not even being on their property, and turned their outside music up so loud we could not hear one another. Very disrespectful
🕯️ VIGIL THIS MONDAY in #Liverpool🕯️ in memory of the tragic death of a man this week on Bibbys prison ship. We will be meeting outside HSBC at 1pm 1/3

Today, @ObserverUK published damning new figures showing that upfront charging for NHS care led to over 900 people being denied treatment. The NHS should be available to all based on need, not ability to pay. These figures reveal only part of the harm. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/a…

We stand with all striking workers. To pit us against each other is an old tactic & one we must not succumb to. To suggest fair pay for healthcare workers comes out of the pockets of the people without whom the NHS would not exist is despicable, discriminatory & racist.
The Government are pitting the fight for fair pay against migrant workers yet again. We must stand together against their attempts to divide us and oppose plans to increase NHS charges for migrants! ✊🏼 *Sign the solidarity statement here* - docs.google.com/document/d/1U8…

⚠Rishi, stop pitting working people against each other ⚠ Our statement on Rishi's announcement to increase visa fees and the NHS surcharge to help fund a public sector pay rise...
NEW: @TheBMA has slammed the Government, describing the increase in charges on migrant health workers as part of the Government's pay offer as "shameful".
🚨BREAKING: This cruel and nonsensical move will push ever more people into poverty and out of status in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis. 🤯How does this govt expect families to pay rising energy bills, food bills, huge visa fees *&* even higher IHS? 🧵
The government’s decision to scrap the immigration health surcharge for NHS & care workers must be extended to EVERYONE. We believe that NO ONE should be forced to pay a double tax because of where they’re from. Watch & share our video + join the call to #ScrapTheSurcharge
Not only is offer pathetic, it’s to be paid for by increasing racist double tax that is arm of Hostile Environment and affects many NHS colleagues - unions need to be explicit they won’t accept offer tied to surcharge increase @BMA_JuniorDocs #JuniorDoctorsStrike
The pay announcement today contains blatant dividing tactics from this Government, yet again aiming to pit the fight for fair public sector pay against a just immigration system. Doubling a discriminatory tax on migrant visas wont fund pay increases 🧵 news.sky.com/story/millions…
The inhumanity, dishonesty and opportunism is disgusting. Last year, a @MigrantVoiceUK report found that a single person was paying at least £2,593 every 2.5 yrs on the visa application fee & health surcharge. The UK visa system is already horrifically exclusionary.
This is disgraceful & there should be no trades unionist worth their salt who should accept this. I hope ppl reject these offers. "Fees for migrants' visa applications and NHS access will rise 'significantly' to help fund public sector pay increases" theguardian.com/politics/live/…
