Long run today. Pumpkinvine Trail, northern Indiana. Friendly Amish families on bikes. Bonnets, suspenders, and a little cardio.

Sore hammies force slow pace on 7-miler today. Sometimes forget how enjoyable an easy maintenance run can be.

Will the doctor look at me funny when I ask how long I'll have to wait for donor hamstrings?

Hemingway writes about my hamstring: "It was old. And sore. It was not good."

Lots of 800s for speedwork today. May wear a golf hat so I can channel the spirit of Dave Wottle.

Nothing hurts today. Lack of pain always makes me suspicious.

Bought shoes from Bob Kennedy's store in hopes they might fulfill my dream of becoming the premier American distance runner of the '90s.

Did 5 miles in new shoes. Saw no increase in my VO2 max. May take them back.

Been together for 9 pairs. But I just want to date other running shoes for a while. We'll still be friends. And maybe someday, who knows?

My Calf: "Thought you could go :30 faster per mile than planned on your long run, huh, old man? Enjoy the stairs." Me: "Shut up, Calf."

16 miles today. Shoes are done. Don't like new version of Wave Alchemy. Anybody switch from them to something they'd recommend?

Brush with greatness. Pre-dawn. Hill in Central Park. Stretching for '08 NYC Half. Street below, out of darkness, warming up. Dathan. Cool.

Just watched replay of Ritz' sub-13 5K on Universal Sports. Amazing last three laps.

Why do I always think my body will overcome high heat and humidity and run the same pace it can when it's 20 degrees cooler? Never learn.

Quote from my 10-year-old daughter: "If I stop talking for a while, it stuns my mouth."

The older I get, the more my body seems to laugh at me when I try to stretch.

After a long car ride, what hurts the most on your first step? Always the left Achilles for me.

Anyone remember Shoe-Goo? You know the economy's bad when you're considering finding some of that stuff for your worn-out trainers.

Worlds are over. It's not quite the post-Olympic blahs. But it's close.

@TribalRunning Feel your pain. Love the Garmin when I'm running. Makes me crazy when I need it to talk to my Mac.
