Excellent @goldschmidt2021 session this morning on critical raw materials for the energy transition, especially on #lithium. Lots for researchers to do in understanding mineralogy, alteration & fluid sources in lithium resources. We're working on it through @Li4FutureTech!

New map showing location of lithium mines, deposits and occurrences is now available on the @Li4FutureTech website: lithiumfuture.org/map.html

A bit of exciting news! LiFT now has a brand new webpage lithiumfuture.org. Here you can find out a little more about the project team and stay up to date with project news and publications.

Another PDRA position is available on the LiFT project. This one is based @NHM_London and will be focused on the mineralogy of lithium mineralisation in volcano-sedimentary environments. Application deadline is April 6th! Full details here: careers.nhm.ac.uk/templates/CIPH…

The LiFT project has appointed its 1st PDRA! Marie Lefebvre-Desanois will be based @unisouthampton working on the analysis of Li & B isotopes. Marie studied @Univ_Lorraine before completing her PhD @GFZ_Potsdam on the Hämmerlein polymetallic skarn deposit, western Erzgebirge.

Fluid-flow & transport in salar systems is a key part of the geological Li-cycle that will be investigated as part of the @NERCscience funded LiFT project. A new 2-year PDRA position in groundwater modelling is now available @BritGeoSurvey. Details here: bgs.ac.uk/about-bgs/work…

More salar info. from @AB_Groundwater: Different salar surface textures in the Li-Triangle of the Andes in S. America. The salars contain valuable amounts of Li, concentrated by evaporation. The different textures indicate maturity of the surfaces & control the evaporation rates.

A nice Salar factoid from @AB_Groundwater: Uyuni Salt Flat (Salar) in Bolivia is the largest salt pan in the world. It covers an area of c. 10,000 km2. That’s about 1.5 million soccer pitches. We're studying how Li is naturally concentrated & stored there. @UKRI_News @NERCscience
