For centuries, the history and traditions of Indigenous peoples have been pushed to the margins. Today, we honor the resilience of those who lived here long before it was renamed and who continue to make their homes in America. Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!

On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we honor the Native American communities who first called DC home, including the Nacotchtank, Piscataway, Powhatan, and Pamunkey peoples. We pay tribute to their strength and ongoing contributions despite the painful injustices they have endured.

In June, I introduced a motion to ensure that people held in LAPD custody continue to receive quality medical care. On Tuesday, the City Council took the final step to prevent the proposed closure of two of the City’s three medical clinics located at LAPD detention facilities.

Over 100 NYC unions, civil rights groups + community orgs launched a citywide campaign Thurs to “protect and prepare” from potential federal or military intervention, calling on NYers to link arms to keep Trump’s “hands off” the city. / @amNewYork amny.com/new-york/hands…
When we fight, we win! Incredible news out of Michigan, where 32,000 home care workers won their union. The power of organized people is what will get us through this moment ✊
In a moment when our democracy feels fragile and our freedoms under attack, 32k home care workers in Michigan are giving us something powerful: hope. These powerful workers fought, won, and took back their union. Congrats to the workers with @MIHCWUnited @seiuhcmi! #UnionsForAll
Now is the time to meet Trump's tyranny and violent takeover of cities in the tradition of nonviolent protest. Through court watching, through peaceful resistance, through building an inclusive democracy—we will stand up for our neighbors and our values. #HandsOffNYC

Members of the Progressuve Caucus and leaders join together to say #HandsOff New York! @CMAlexaAviles @CMShahanaHanif @CabanD22 @CMPiSanchez @EmilyAssembly @tonysimone @NYCSpeakerAdams @claireforqueens @bradlander @nycpa

This is an outrageous abuse of power by Flock. Corporations are trying to invade your privacy - shoutout to the city of Evanston for pushing back against this overreach. evanstonroundtable.com/2025/09/24/flo…
The fascist strikes MPLS once again. Our separation ordinance is not going anywhere. ICE & Trump’s minions are not welcome here.mI will use all the tools I have as Council Member to protect our residents, regardless of race, immigration status, socio-economic status, & sexuality.

These are tough times to be in city government. I’m so proud to be part of @LocalProgress where I’m working with hundreds of my closest friends across the country to fight against the Trump agenda and for a stronger future
This summer, over 500 local elected officials from across the country gathered in Chicago for our national convening. We interviewed over a dozen local leaders to gain their perspective on a range of issues, from immigration to tariffs. Here's what they had to say 👇
At a time when workers and immigrants have been thrown into precarity and fear, The POWER Act out of Philadelphia is a model for how localities can provide some more stability and protection. Shoutout to Councilmember @KendraPHL for championing it! whyy.org/articles/phila…
It’s been more than 100 days since ICE began indiscriminately targeting workers and tearing families apart in LA. As the Trump admin escalates these raids nationwide – it’s up to all of us to speak out, fight back, and protect our immigrant neighbors. latimes.com/california/sto…
The gutting of healthcare, essential food services, and complete disregard of workers while ICE and the military is beefed up will be felt most in our towns, cities, and localities. Our communities deserve better. npr.org/2025/10/01/nx-…
