The liking-learning gap, what students like is not what they learn from: 📊We like graphics, but fun slides hurt long-term recall (boring ones help) 🧑‍🏫We think we learn more from slick lecturers, but we don't 🍪 When given cookies in a final class, we report we learned 20% more

The learning process isn't finished when you acquire knowledge. It's complete when you consistently apply that knowledge. Many people accumulate information. Far fewer use it to evolve and improve. The ultimate test of growth is closing the gap between awareness and action.

So true in work with children - both teaching and parenting.

A common source of disappointment is recency bias: weighing the last week more heavily than the last year. Zooming in on the immediate past magnifies slumps. Zooming out farther reveals upward slopes. Progress is rarely visible at a snapshot in time. It unfolds over a lifetime.

Harvard research shows 3 keys for effective schools: 1) Relationships, 2) Aligned Standards Based Curriculum, and 3) Pedagogy (engagement, expectations, etc.). Which one of the 3 isn't working as it should in your own organization? -Dr. Tiffany Anderson #ASCDLeadershipSummit

"We can learn to enjoy the journey regardless of the destination." Research shows that kids & tweens are less motivated by high stakes than older teens/adults, so sharing this data could help them focus more on efforts than results. ⁦@washingtonpostwashingtonpost.com/wellness/2022/…
