Not many Colorado River Basin states ready to step up and protect wetlands or waters that are not relatively permanent waters following today’s Sackett decision. Oof.

24 states are entirely dependent on the federal #CWA for protection of their wetlands and many of their other waters. 7 others mostly rely on the federal definition (with some state protections for some waters). 6/x

Oh,@8thGenCA I’d like to think it would be different if you hadn’t retired. At least enjoy not worrying about them, salmon, and your customers every day. 😉 Wordle 268 2/6 ⬛🟨🟨🟨⬛ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

So in general I don’t share wordle because honestly who cares how someone else did but todays was very delta oriented. So naturally I almost didn’t solve. Wordle 268 6/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟨🟨 ⬜⬜🟨🟨⬜ 🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Intrigued by "Managing multiple streams regionally ... can sometimes turn convex local tradeoffs into concave regional tradeoffs more amenable to compromise," so carefully contemplates the amount of bureaucratic overhead to obtain at work copy versus using personal credit card.

This is a fun paper on a different way of using Pareto-optimality to develop better solutions.

Sigh. One day I will make it to Katmai. After a morning of gardening and hiking there is something quite zen about watching bears and a truly glorious salmon run. Enjoy youtu.be/C0zf9I2XYrs

So I did have to go back and confirm that Professor Sax did not include thalweg in his report to the SWRCB on the classification of subterranean streams. Such a missed opportunity.

The steady secession of the Article I branch to the Article II branch has been insane. And originally I assumed only republicans would care and stand up on this point, but it’s clear neither party will. Geez

The “no wake” marker is a gut punch. It’s only May, and it’s only going to get worse. Conserve now. Don’t wait for your local water agency or the state to act.

Simply staggering from a jurisprudential perspective.

This volume is staggering in two respects. First, there have been more of these rulings to this point in the Term (19) than there have been signed rulings in argued cases (18). That is, the status-quo-altering part of the "shadow docket" has—for now—*overtaken* the merits docket.

So much this, with the addition of needless. And yet here we are a year later....

So much this. Climate change isn't just a coastal issue, a crop issue, or a severe storms issue. It will profoundly affect water security for billions of people. I'm glad Jay is continuing his important water work, but I miss him in the @CaWaterBoards family.

With so many beautiful statements on the life and legacy of John Lewis, this thread is a fascinating read on the last-minute revisions to his 1963 March on Washington speech. It is an insight into the compromises made to keep allies, and his prescience for future challenges. RIP

John Lewis was the youngest speaker at the 1963 March on Washington—where MLK gave the "I have a dream" speech—and the speech Lewis wrote that day was so incendiary that the march organizers wouldn't let him deliver it as written.

Oh my. Retweeting a chamber person, but Twitter’s TOS require me to be truthful. >10 and fond memories of at least 8 of them. Truly a stroll down memory lane. sfuzzi....

When you come back to Twitter after a respite and find the most insightful thread on a common, cross-cutting problem of communication and expertise to be from . . . Steak Umm’s official account. steak-umm bless

one major roadblock in getting credible information to the masses is the divide between experts and communicators. most experts aren't communicators and most communicators aren't experts. this often results in research being spun with a narrative by the time it reaches the public
