Mind blown. Didn’t know this.
I'm old enough to remember when Gloria Reuben left ER, at the height of the show's popularity, to be a backup singer on Tina Turner's 24-7 tour and the entire industry was like, "yes, #goals."
It begins with the words. Nothing happens without them. Sometimes, the writing achieves transcendence, but, in every case, it’s seminal. I got to a give a brilliant speech recently, which not only explicated my and my brother’s characters, it illuminated an entire narrative. 1/3
Lucky there are no producer guidelines on whether you need to declare facilitating an £800k loan to a prime minister while applying for a job as chairman of a broadcasting organisation….

I had no money growing up. My dad was a labourer and my mum did everything to make ends meet. Men worked hard. Women worked miracles. But education was free. As was the local library. I knew books were my passport to a better life. #SupportLibraries
Barry Keoghan. In 2003 his mum passed away. Spent 7 years in foster care with 23 different foster homes. In 2010 he responded to small casting ad in Dublin shop window. In 2023 nominated for best supporting actor. #Oscars2023 #bansheesofinisherin

On #WorldKindnessDay, I wanted to give serious consideration to HOW @JohnLewisRetail Christmas ad #TheBeginner communicates its message of welcome & love, which has proven to mean so much to the Care Experienced Community but others have mocked. So here's a THREAD. @whocaresscot
“My trip to space was supposed to be a celebration; instead, it felt like a funeral”. Beautifully observed by legendary actor William Shatner on ongoing destruction of our precious pale blue marble, our only home.
After tumultuous week, worth reflecting: In the 37 years from 1979 to 2016 there were just 5 prime ministers. In the 6 years since 2016 we’ve also had 5 PMs Something pretty destabilising must have happened that year
"You boy, what Chancellor is this?"
I hope it’s OK to spout memories: I used to ride with Robbie Coltrane between Manchester and London in his sort-of-restored MGA. I’d roll him cigarettes while he discoursed on the ways of the world, and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed or learned so much in my life.
Queue is such a great word. The actual important letter, and then four more silently waiting behind it in a line.
And we’ll never, ever forget it. Thank you, Gander.
On this day, a tiny town in Canada opened up their hearts — and their homes — to 7,000 stranded passengers in their time of need. They didn’t care about politics, or who the President was. They did it because it's what Canadians do. Here's how they did it. A Goodable Thread🧵
