A chef does not prepare every meal the way they prefer. They prepare meals based on what the customer prefers. We cannot teach the way we prefer if it is not meeting what the students need. @edutopia #edchat #teachers #TuesdayThoughts edutopia.org/article/sparki…
A survey of 2,000 elementary schools found that instead of moving bright kids ahead to more advanced topics, #gifted classrooms are preoccupied with activities to develop critical thinking and #creativity @hechingerreport ow.ly/vxdq50qvwOS #edchat
Teachers get to retake the exam to be a teacher multiple times. So let's real world that we don't accept failure, you do it until you're successful. #intherealworld
Absolutely. Driver’s Test allows retakes. So does SAT. ACT. GRE. LSAT. The Bar. And the MCAT (up to 7x). If your argument is “the real world” doesn’t allow retests, that’s a half dozen counterexamples that say otherwise. Require check-ins before retesting. Then go for it.
Another study that shows textbooks do not increase student achievement. So don’t think adopting a textbook will solve all of your #NGSS issues! #pedagogy #ngsschat robertslavinsblog.wordpress.com/2019/03/28/do-…
I don’t tell students I teach math, I tell them ‘I teach thinking.’ Learning Mathematics is Learning to think. An exercise for the brain.
How to Stop Yelling at Your Students ow.ly/Ooxt30ooeIy #classroommanagement #buildrelationships #classroomclimate #teachertips
Promote creativity! Inspire students to... 1. Do what they love. 2. Never give up. 3. Build in time for play. 4. Creatively embark in their own learning. 5. Tell stories. 6. Be ambitious for the work, not a grade or reward.
If a kid retakes and gets 100% there is no justification for any score less than the learning they demonstrated.
"Tracking in mathematics is the structural equivalent to a fixed mindset about math ability" -Julia Aguirre #ncsm2019
My opinion is that textbooks should not be the primary source when developing instruction. We are experts in the field of education. It is a tool. At best I have found it tertiary. It’s hard but rising to the challenge of not using a textbook as a crutch is important.

Student I know is behind on math... so she was prescribed to do a yucky online boring math program. When kids are struggling with math the LAST thing they need is ROTE what they need is purpose and creativity and challenge. #mathchat
