Really proud of this one. ❤️ If we want pros to stop leaving the classroom, let’s treat them like… pros. @ELmagazine

I feel like in the same way fantasy football changes how you watch the games themselves, standardized testing data changes how you see the classroom. And we have way too many "fantasy football managers" making decisions in education.

One of the best things that ever happened was handing off the board notes to students 💯❤️ “When it gets dark…” 😂

Terrific--and I mean *terrific*--article. Should expert teachers be required to use materials that make them less effective just because others might need them? (Spoiler alert: NO)

My latest column for @ELmagazine.❤️ "We can’t have it both ways: School systems can’t both retain and infantilize expert teachers." ascd.org/el/articles/ar…

The meat and potatoes of teaching, the blocking and tackling of teaching Not easy by any means, but simple.

I know this seems simple, but bread-and-butter teaching: ⓵ have students write stuff that matters ⓶ read that stuff and take notes/leave feedback ⓷ design next lesson in response to what you notice Yes, this takes time. But it's worth it.

Also, if you're making teachers follow a strict/scripted pacing guide, you are preventing this. Also, if you're pushing teachers to hand off feedback to AI tools, you are preventing this. Also. Also. Also. (Simple ain't easy these days.)

Sorry to sound old but brainrot did not begin with ChatGPT. Short-form videos are addictive by design, and too much exposure will fry your concentration, curiosity and joy in living. You need to be ingesting long-form content: novels, movies, essays, educational books and videos.

there is a moral panic around short form video content imo

The smartphone era has been an extinction level event for hobbies. So many pastimes have disappeared or are in the process of disappearing into the glowing event horizon of the screen

Anyone have interesting satirical short stories that high school kids have actually found interesting?

Me: mute the word “Kirk” X: naw
