Free Aim is a great example of what E33 gameplay does well, which is *remixing* elements from other games into something greater than sum of its parts. It takes obvious inspiration from Persona guns but is extended to interact with resources, combos, abilities, and weak points

Played JRPGs all my life and even I could tell when they did unique and cool stuff like the free aim system. They remix a ton of stuff to create something unique to it. They even take things outside of JRPGs such as a character having a style system. The downplay is ridiculous

in virtually every advice column the panacea is: "see a therapist." yet, in real life, many therapists with whom we are acquainted are not particularly intelligent or original-thinking persons; they may be good-hearted, sympathetic, but inevitably veer toward a conformist notion…

And see the context! This woman was going through divorce, surgery, health issues and her therapist wanted to talk about childhood trauma What ChatGPT said to her was being a kind and patient listener which is what she needed.

The actually good players in this game will help you improve, they will join your prog parties and they don't care when you wipe because you're learning. They enjoy seeing others get into what they like, raiding. The toxic ones are just bad players who think they are good 😋

In the 18th century, there was a real chance of death at any point in life, and there wasn't a big peak in old age. It wasn't just higher infant mortality - the whole distribution was completely different. Great chart by @Scientific_Bird.

I've struggled to announce this amidst so much dark & awful going on in the world, but with 1mo to go, I wanted to share that: (i) I finally graduated; (ii) In August, I'll begin as an assistant professor in the CS dept. of the National University of Singapore.

I really want to learn Lean. It's like a sickness creeping into my cerebellum. Terence Tao has a channel now walking through using it to formalize proofs! We live in an age both wondrous and monstrous, with access to the greatest minds and worst reasons youtube.com/watch?v=6uLXA9…

One notable exception: the planets are actually on a plane. That's not a simplification! But no one ever mentioned what was simplification and what wasn't when teaching ~this picture

many many many many many such cases

Have an essay idea with working title "FOOM Dynamics and Qualitative Differences in Outcome from smooth differences in input" is this something anyone would be interested in? Dynamic systems flavour self-regulation and zones of stability stuff

"Total LessWrong Victory" seems exaggerated - there are many things LW predicted that we don't seem on track for right now. WINS: - reward hacking in RL - Neural networks generalizing very broadly - Mesa-optimization concerns - Interpretability lagging capabilities MIXED: -…

Many such cases - EA critic immediately concedes that any specific GHD or AW intervention is good, actually
