It has been an exciting last week of October in the Hiawatha Library with spooky-themed STEAM challenges. Each grade got a unique challenge that exercised their engineering design process brains, problem solving skills and creativity! 🐾Way to go Huskies!!!🐾
For this year’s Day of the Dead holiday, students across all grade levels studied the culture and symbols surrounding the Latin holiday. All of Hiawatha had a hand in building this gorgeous display which offered a window, doorway or mirror into the worlds of all our students.

My mother remembers her folks in Louisiana celebrating Juneteenth eating homemade ice cream. Ice cream made by her grandfather, my great-grandfather. His mother was born enslaved – and 152 years later, we still hold her promise of freedom close. Happy Juneteenth to you and yours.
