I liked this so much I wrote it down next to his thinking. When Ss recognize and alter their own misconceptions during #numbertalks great things happen #iteachmath #iteach #mtbos

If we focus on what children cannot do, they will never be where we want them to be. Be inquisitive about your students. Notice what they can do.

Yesterday I posted some open-ended math activities next to my bulletin board to engage the whole school, adults and students alike, in “playing math.” It’s already catching on - a teacher sent me this shot today! 🥰 #iteachmath

Great article from @joboaler about the importance of struggle! Why Struggle Is Essential for the Brain — and Our Lives edsurge.com/news/2019-10-2… via @EdSurge

This is what @ctfosnot's Landscapes of Learning are all about! Kids don't all follow the same cookie-cutter linear progression of mathematical understandings.

There are many reasons to read the article (sooo good), but the part that stuck w/ me was this line: "It may be more productive to characterize development in terms of a constellation of possible learning paths rather than as a singular, somewhat linear trajectory." (p.19) 9/10

What if we spent the time we use to administer and grade “the mad math minute” to actually sit down with each child FOR a minute so we can listen to their thinking...just a thought. #elemmathchat

Shared these with my third grade teachers - excited to try them in a classroom!
