#OTD in 1996, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty opened for signature. Currently, the #CTBT has 184 signatories & 168 States Parties. Last month for #IDANT, @UN SG @antonioguterres reiterated his call for all States that have not yet done so to sign & ratify the #CTBT.
In that sense, I have begun to see some “greet shoots of convergence” - areas where there may be fertile ground for practical steps on nuclear disarmament. I will keep on working with State Parties to pursue those green shoots and develop ideas to strengthen the NPT.
