Warmer conditions will return next week, with continued dry conditions. The culprit? A sprawling high pressure system that will be setting up across the southern and central U.S. #gawx

[6:10 PM Friday Update] No, your eyes are not deceiving you! Parts of central Georgia are seeing rainfall this evening. While a little rain is better than none, this won't be enough to make much of a dent in the drought. #gawx
September was a dry month with rainfall at our four main climate sites ranging from around 0.5 inch to over 3 inches below normal. Our overall dry start to October has led to worsening drought conditions across much of north and central Georgia. #gawx

Drought conditions have expanded and/or worsened across portions of western Georgia and metro Atlanta over the last week. With very little to no rainfall on the horizon for the next 7-10 days, drought conditions will likely worsen. #gawx

Another day of clouds and isolated rain chances for North and Central Georgia. 🌧️This will keep daytime temperatures in the 70s (5-10 degrees cooler in the mountains). Skies will begin to clear overnight. #gawx

Good Wednesday evening! At this time, a cold front is pushing southward across central Georgia. As a result, more fall-like weather (cooler/milder temperatures) is in store tomorrow through the weekend. #gawx

Despite afternoon highs dropping down into the 70s tomorrow post-front, a gradual warming trend is expected through the weekend. Highs next week are likely to return to the 80s areawide. #gawx

[11:25 AM Tue. Update] A cold front is slowly making its way across the TN River Valley. As a result, scattered showers are expected today, mainly along and north of I-85. Showers will gradually spread southward tonight through tomorrow as the front moves through. ☔️ #gawx
While we're expecting warmer than average temperatures and chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms to linger through midweek, cooler, drier and positively fall-like conditions are in store for us this weekend. #gawx

Although temperatures will warm through mid week, a cold front on Wednesday into Thursday will bring back those fall like temperatures into the weekend! #gawx

A little update on our rain chances over the next week. While we are are expecting some rain (maybe even a few rumbles of thunder mid week), it's looking unlikely we will see much improvement in current drought conditions. #gawx

Increasing clouds = increasing moisture! ☁️ While hazardous conditions for fires spreading have ceased, appreciable rainfall will be hard to come by through the week ahead. #gawx
While low-end rain chances will begin to filter back in to the forecast this weekend, most locations across north and central Georgia will see the dry trend that characterized September carry over into the first full week of October. #gawx

Pleasant weather will continue into the first half of the weekend! ☀️ Isolated to scattered showers and storms are expected mainly south of I-20 on Sunday afternoon and evening, while the remainder of the state will likely stay dry. #gawx

A Fire Danger Statement is in effect for portions of west-central Georgia until 8 PM EDT this evening. With a combination of low relative humidity and dry fuels from the lack of recent rain, any fires in this area could spread rapidly. #gawx

The main weather story in Georgia right now remains the ongoing dry conditions. Here is the drought outlook for the next 3 months. Drought expansion is possible in Georgia. #gawx

The weather will be perfect for an evening outing Friday and Saturday! How do you plan to enjoy it? #gawx

10/1 6AM: A pleasant start to the month of October as dry and mild (fall-like?!) weather will move into north and central GA through Friday. Highs will be in the low 80s today, then mid-upper 70s Thu/Fri. Skies will be mostly clear with breezy winds each afternoon. #gawx

With just a couple of hours remaining in the day, Atlanta is rapidly approaching it's 5th driest September on record! #gawx
