12/23/1942 Jerry Koosman is born. Koosman won 140 games and posted a 3.09 ERA in the first 12 seasons of his career in New York. He is a 1969 World Series champion, a Mets Hall of Famer, and one of ten Mets to have his number retired.
12/23/2003 Mike Cameron signs a three-year, $19.5 million deal with the Mets. In his first season in Queens, Cameron slugged a career-high 30 homers and drove in 76 runs. @_mcameron44
12/23/1996 After not playing during the 1996 season, Todd Pratt signs a minor league deal with the Mets. Pratt hit .265 with a .769 OPS in four and a half seasons in Queens. In 1999, he hit the only postseason home run of his career to send New York to the NLCS. @ToddPratt07
12/23/1999 The Mets acquire Mike Hampton from Houston for Roger Cedeño, Octavio Dotel, and Kyle Kessel. In his lone season in New York, Hampton went 15-10 with a 3.14 ERA. He was also named series MVP after throwing 16 shutout innings against St. Louis in the NLCS. @hambone1063
12/22/1969 Tom Seaver is named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year. In 1969, Seaver led MLB with 25 victories, pitched to a 2.21 ERA, and struck out 208 batters. He was also named the National League Cy Young Award winner and won a World Series championship.
12/22/2005 Endy Chávez signs a one-year deal with the Mets for $500,000. In his first season in New York, Chávez hit .306 over 133 games and made one of the greatest catches in postseason history.
12/21/1998 After pitching in Japan for the 1998 season, Pat Mahomes signs with the Mets. In his first season in New York, Mahomes went 8-0 with a 3.68 ERA. He allowed two runs in eight innings during the 1999 postseason. @PMahomes
12/21/1970 Ed Kranepool and Art Shamsky help kids count by hitting baseballs during an appearance on Sesame Street. @ArtShamsky
12/21/2022 Carlos Correa and the Mets agree to a 12-year contract worth $315 million. The two sides would not finalize the deal due to concerns with Correa’s physical.
12/20/1996 The Mets acquire John Olerud from the Blue Jays for Robert Person. In 1998, Olerud set single-season club records in average (.354), OBP (.447), and times on base (309). He is also the franchise leader in career average (.315), OBP (.425), and OPS (.926).
12/20/1982 David Wright is born. He was a 7x All-Star, 2x Gold Glove winner, 2x Silver Slugger, and became the franchise leader in many offensive categories in his 14-year career with New York. In 2025, Wright had his number retired and was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame.
12/20/2002 Cliff Floyd signs a four-year, $26 million contract with the Mets. He hit .268 with 81 home runs and 273 RBI during his time in New York. One of Floyd's best seasons came in 2005 when he slugged a career-high 34 homers and drove in 98 runs. @CliffFloyd30
12/19/1986 Michael Sergio, the parachutist from Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, is sentenced to 100 hours of community service and fined $500 for trespassing. Sergio later stated that Mets players helped him secure a lawyer. He never revealed the name of the pilot. @Sheajumper
