I know what I'm talking about...

Great thread laying out the challenges facing PHL resupply of Second Thomas Shoal. This is a today problem; the Sierra Madre is in trouble.

“That's an illegal blockade, and what is needed is a strategy to lift, break or circumvent it.” 🇨🇳 probably won’t lift it, and breaking through it on the water risks an incident. However, circumventing via air is another story. 🧵 1/13

This is a great point! Maturing perspectives requires changing references when needed…

Took only 32 years. Did people keep referring to the former Dutch republic of Indonesia, the former British republic of India, the former Japanese republic of Korea and the former American republic of the Philippines until the late 1970s?

I don't think I've ever seen the Russian strategic community engage in such intense public debate over nuclear use as over the past 1 week. Here a summary of all contributions, for those who missed it: (Others, feel free to add pieces I left out to this thread!)

Interesting take… not all effects are the desired ones…

Russian fast food chain Vkusno - i Tochka ("Delicious, period") "has fully restored its market share in the Russian Federation, which was occupied by McDonald's." In other words, the departure of Western virtue-signalling brands has benefitted Russia's domestic counterparts.

This may be the most massive rally in the history of Artsakh. The people here are demanding the right to a dignified future — with freedom and independence for the citizens of this small isolated republic. Largest protest on Earth today — yet international media is silent.

Probably a must read to assess with critical eye to the methodology… haven’t read yet so can’t give you my view, just my interest.

It is too early to ascertain the method of attack and the range of implications of this attack on the Kerch Bridge. It is certainly a punch in the face for Putin on his birthday. A couple of thoughts however in this short (for me) thread. 1/9 🧵

Today’s speech by Putin is a milestone in the Russo-Ukraine War. It may be useful for Putin in a domestic politics sense. But, as has been the case throughout this war, it is terrible strategy for Russia. A thread on the implications of Putin’s latest ‘bold’ move. 1/25

Compare how Putin treated Gerasimov and Shoigu during the Kavkaz 2020 exercise with his demeanor during the recent Vostok exercise. The body language is very different.
