Native Bees All Day Everyday 🐝
@NativeBeesDaily
We lose about 2% of our bug friends every year! Here to raise awareness about the diversity of bees across the globe! DM us a bee species to feature that bee!

Look out for our industrious leaf cutter bees, as you’re admiring your roses, or any wild dog roses. Video taken by @JeffOvers . These mammas cut discs of leaf to line and close off their nests. They are excellent builders.
I've been inspired by @cgwilson25 to post more bee pictures on here! So, here's a male Pseudomacrotera turgiceps I collected in Joshua Tree (with permits) in 2022. The head size of males is variable in this species, but most seem to have a large head like this specimen.
#Honeybees are not the #bees that need saving. #SaveTheBees. @Telegraph Thanks to @chickpeaman @DaveGoulson @LondonBeePerson @LondonBeeKeeper @apiculturalLdn @olds_liam @perkins58 @BumblebeeTrust @KewScience telegraph.co.uk/gardening/chel…
And I would like to add for people from the US. Instead of participating in #NoMowMay instead go for #PlantNativePlants or even better #KillYourLawn and make it into a pocket habitat with all native plants. I guarantee you will be very popular among your native pollinators
Bees exhibit many types of solitary through social behaviours, which makes them a great tool to investigate the evolution of sociality- @DovaSuttner. Support bee research! Donate to the Maria Stea fund (shorturl.at/asZ09) or attend a May 17 event (shorturl.at/abkF6).
Xylocopa aerata is a rare carpenter bee found only in a few places in Australia including Kangaroo Island in South Australia. The nests are easy to find because of the dime-sized holes in the stalks of grass trees. Recent fires on the Island have had a negative effect on the bee.
Thank you for bringing this information to more people! #savenativebees cnn.com/wbd/how-to-ide…
Random person: What do you do for work? Me: I'm a conservation scientist specializing in wild bees Random person: Oh! That's so cool! I've always wanted my own beehive. Me: 🫠 Every. single. time.

Day 3: #CouchTo10SpringBees Sexual dimorphism is when the sexes of the same species have different morphological characteristics as highlighted perfectly in Andrena clarkella, below. @PollinatorPlan @BioDataCentre @NatureRTE
And just like that the Shrill Carder Bee season is upon us: Donna Truwhyte sent us these photos taken on the 23rd March at the Enchanted Gardens Plant Nursery in Kent! Bee-rilliant to see a queen although it still feels a little early?! Have you seen a shrill yet? Let us know! 🐝
Day 2 of #CouchTo10SpringBees Just to add, the mites on the bee are harmless and are hitching a ride until she founds a nest at which point they will disembark and keep her new nest clean. Google 'phoresis' to find out more...
Inspired by @LeifBersweden's #CouchTo10Mosses, please find... #CouchTo10SpringBees. Each day, I will show you a bee you might come across in your daily life as they emerge from hibernation. Keep a checklist and share your photos! And enjoy! @PollinatorPlan @BioDataCentre
Of all the invertebrate photographs I've taken over the years, this is definitely one of my favourites!
Ed Phillips' 'Willughby's Leafcutter Bee' received Runner Up in the Animal Portraits Category! Ed tells us 'I have a particular interest in the UK’s solitary bees and like to photograph the species that visit our Staffordshire garden.' Well done Ed on this great portrait!
First blue orchard bee boy I've spotted this year!!! #yvr #rileyparkcommunitygarden
I know I have thousands of Colletes photos but you can never have too many, right? Right?! #colleteslove
Check out the "horns" on this bee! Eucera spectabilie is known as the sightly long-horned bee – “sightly” being the English of the Latin “spectabilis” (so google tells us). Post Courtesy of thepackerlab on IG.
Instead of encouraging #LazyLawns & #NoMowMonday, landscapes for native biodiversity and ecological integrity need to be nurtured. We need to engage, tend and cultivate the natural communities we depend on 🐝 Here's why: ow.ly/Lctb50NtZIk @SaveWildBees @BeesYork @YorkUEUC
If you're interested to find out more about how much land, and what habitats, are needed to support wild #bee🐝 communities check out this🧵about our Ontario study: #Pollinators #Pollination
A pioneering study by scientists at @UofGuelphOAC and @cbuniversity finds the amount of land needed to support wild bees is much greater that initially thought 🐝 #UofG Learn more: bit.ly/3njgAPF
