I can't begin to explain how much doing things the right way or being respectful was attributed to "acting white" while growing up. It's sad that so many people feel that etiquette and respect should be tied to race.
Every time I post our boys in etiquette class, folks say: “Why y’all teaching them to eat like white people?” Neatness ain’t “white.” If you call it that, you’re saying being loud, dirty, & sloppy is “Black.” We’re teaching excellence, discipline, & self-respect.
