New analysis from @ONECampaign reveals a worrying trend in global health aid: when you strip out COVID funding, aid for health reached a 13-year low in 2021. Did donors just temoporarily shift health $ to help respond to the pandemic? The outlook may be more bleak then that 🧵👇

Investments in health care and development are impossible without financial resources, but the progress that leads to economic growth—which in turn generates those resources—is impossible without improvements in health outcomes and poverty reduction.

"In 2024, the world’s 75 poorest countries, more than half of which are in Africa, will have to spend more than $185 bn, 7.5pc of their combined GDP, to service their debts. According to the World Bank, that’s more than what they spend annually on health, education, and…

Good reminder from Olivia Ngou: the reason most people think AIDS, TB & malaria is over is because the tireless work to fight these diseases is *working* “If you stop that work, trust me it’s going to come back quickly” #WHS2024 @ImpSanteAfrique

Woof. @gavi CEO notes that fragmentation at the country level trickles down & contributes to fragmentation between @GlobalFund & Gavi programs at the county level. If gov bureaucracy is the bar we have to clear for better coordination, we’re in trouble! 🤦‍♀️ #WHS2024

Let’s just take a minute here and ask: exactly why are all the vaccines in rich countries to begin with?

#Mpox news is evolving quickly. We're tracking it so you don't have to. A 🧵 of the latest -- starting with vaccine pledges. Over 4m doses have been pledged so far. 75% are LC16, the only vaccine approved for use in children. 1/

It does seem like "pandemic preparedness" on MPox has failed. The "response" still has a chance to deliver but the clock is ticking.

My position remains that this MPox emergency was avoidable. Evidence since at least last December. So either the pandemic preparedness efforts failed or pandemic preparedness is only for the whiter/richer countries. TBD? bloomberg.com/news/features/…
