Let’s be honest: the main reason for the 32.5hr rule is to stop schools reducing to 4 day weeks to manage budgets. It’s there as an anti-embarrassment pre-election policy, to be pulled out if a crackdown is needed. Hence the government doesn’t really care how it’s achieved.
Most schools already provide 32.5 hours. But, as we revealed back in March, others have been left 'in the dark' over how the DfE wanted them to meet the target, which - until today - was due to kick in from this Sept. tes.com/magazine/news/…

The nonsense talked by ministers about (a) the independent pay review bodies and (b) how inflation works: all thanks to @PeterStefanovi2:
I MAKE NO EXCUSES FOR MY RAGE. This truth twisting Government’s treatment of our public sector workers - who kept this country going during the pandemic - has been absolutely shameful. Watch this in disbelief and if you share my anger RT it widely
The number of head teachers leaving before retirement is the highest it’s ever been. It’s 4 x worse than in 2010. We need inspirational leaders for the future of children’s education. @GillianKeegan, face up to the crisis in our schools. #DoYourJobGill #SaveOurSchools #PayUpNow

Just listened to Keir Starmer’s big education speech. Some big ideas & as ever, I think the devil will be in the detail (which is totally understandable). Here are 4 examples of the pitfalls that need to be avoided.
Yesterday, I met a member who is from Belgium. She was on strike because her pay as a 🇬🇧 teacher is in continual decline. Public Sector payrises in 🇧🇪 automatically track inflation. Teachers got a payrise of 11%. Inflation in 🇧🇪 today is 4.15% There was no "wage price spiral"
Two and a half weeks until the end of term and we still cannot set a budget because you won’t release the pay information. You are causing stress and anxiety. We can’t plan activities for the children and you are letting them down. @GillianKeegan @halfon4harlowMP @educationgovuk

If @GillianKeegan had published the pay review body report and got round the table this action could have been avoided. It’s time for her to do job and publish it and talk. #SaveOurSchools
