It's always beneficial to watch a beginners crash course on YouTube, even when you know the subjects... There's always a few nuggets in there that you hadn't twigged earlier. You get to see how someone else does things.
Does anyone have experience of Upwork for programming gigs? Is it worth signing up and giving it a try as a #freelancer
Start work early and justify a dinner-time run on Pendle. Breaks up a day on the computer nicely.
When I can't go into work any longer it needs a few support phone calls to brighten up my day, even if they are a bit tricky to fix.
It's great to see my friend who has been bored in his mechanic's job for years using his furlough time to setup a workshop at home as a handmade bike frame builder. From little acorns...
I found this article really useful, staying away from the likes of Upworks and Fiverr with their heavy fees and vague job specs. freelancinghacks.com/lesser-known-f…
I’ve been tutoring today on #sqlserver and #siss and you don’t realise how much you know and take for granted until you start explaining the theory to someone.
I commute an hour each way on my bike and I suspect it's the most productive part of my day. Fresh air, a clear mind and no interruptions...and it keeps me fit.
My dad told me when I was young that you learn something new every day, and he's been right... So I thought why not regularly put these observations down. I hope they strike a chord.
From September I'm looking for interesting freelance/contract work. If you're in need of a Python/JS developer then please get in touch! niftydigits.com
Looking forward to this:
I'll be doing a lightning talk @LancsTechTalks on how @CDL_Software is using Game Days to ensure rock solid solutions. meetup.com/Lancashire-Tec…
Looking forward to @damonsk's talk on Wardley maps. Wardley Mapping helps people to determine the best strategy for development and delivery (of almost anything!) - find out more by joining us at our next meetup on Thursday 21st March - meetup.com/Lancashire-Tec…
I went to see Mark from @ANSgroup talk at @LancsTechTalks about the Internet of Things . And 'Things' is all it is until companies like this put these together and make real world imaginative solutions from them... Enlightening.
Yesterday I reluctantly did my first #Fiverr gig promotion video. Sat in front of the iPad for 20 minutes... thinking about starting! Did 5 takes before I got one that I was happy with. Then this morning got an assessment email saying it had been rejected... Start again!
How do british #Programmers find #Fiverr ? Do they not expect to be paid more or is it just a springboard to bigger gigs and a way to make new contacts?
I'm interested to know as a #startup #freelancer what percentage of people's time is spent doing chargable work? Does this change as you get estabished?
When offering tech support as I do at the moment, being approachable and friendly is as important in my mind as the help I give. Engage with them and let them help you solve the problem.
After 30 years of being employed as an engineer and #programmer. I've decided I want to go #freelance. It's all a bit daunting but I want to get out a bit and work with a variety of industries on #SQLServer and #csharp on #businessdevelopment
