Is there any chance the pandemic can be used to: 1) Stop the race to Calculus 2) Stop forcing Algebra/Geometry into MS It feel like we could use the pandemic as an 'excuse' to slow down and help students development a conceptual understanding a little more slowly. #iteachmath
🚨 The State Board of Ed is meeting Thursday to potentially revisit their decision to proceed w/ standardized testing this spring. Time spent on tests this spring could be far better spent on instruction & social-emotional support. Email the State Board 👇 netdonor.net/page/77099/act…
Serious question, Superintendent Salmon: how do you justify getting a vaccine and then tell thousands of Maryland teachers they need to go back to in-person instruction without having one themselves?
Transitioning into a hybrid model of learning from the virtual space will not make remote learning any better. It will stretch teachers thin, causing the remote learning AND the hybrid model of learning to suffer. No one stands to benefit.
“[Testing this year] is counterproductive because it potentially demoralizes students and teachers without addressing the grave problems exacerbated by the pandemic,” writes a longtime assessment researcher. #EWOpinion edweek.org/teaching-learn…

Testing Students This Spring Would Be a Mistake (Opinion)
High-stakes tests would tell us very little we can't know in other ways, writes a longtime assessment researcher.

It blows my mind when people don't correlate supporting teachers with supporting students. They are directly connected. When you support teachers, fully fund their schools and classrooms, and give them pay raises so they don't have to work extra jobs-- you ARE helping students.
Too excited!!! @MrsPotterMath @Math_DrP
I completely agree with @MSEAeducators. We know that COVID cases are on the rise in our state. We need greater transparency in the data and metrics that are used to make critical decisions like re-opening our schools.
There should be clear & transparent procedures & information about coronavirus cases in our schools and classrooms. Educators, parents, & families should have critical information available to them to help make decisions so we can all stay safe & healthy. baltimoresun.com/education/bs-m…
