To step back is to be mindful for just a few seconds. Look, listen, count, breath, pause, slow down...anything that intentionally switches your focus from the stress in the moment.

There are four skills that matter most for brain health: noticing, stepping back from reactivity, adding positive thoughts and experiences, remembering you as and at your best. To really apply the skill, you have to switch from one of the four to another.
