#RISheriffs had a spooktacular time handing out treats at the Public Safety Truck or Treat event on Saturday in the Town of Exeter. All the trick or treaters had a fun time selecting candy from the back of our vehicle!

Chief Paul Martellini is honored to announce that the RI Sheriffs were the recipients of the 2025 Neil J. Houston, Jr. Memorial Award from the Justice Assistance Organization, which has become recognized as the most prestigious award in the RI criminal justice system.

This Saturday, the #RISheriffs are joining public safety agencies from across the state for a “SPOOKTACULAR” Trunk or Treat event in Exeter, RI. Bring your families and join us for some FUN on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 4PM – 6PM at the Metcalf Elementary School.

On Sunday, the #RISheriffs transport vehicle participated in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run first-ever HEROES PULL to help raise vital funds & awareness for the athletes of Special Olympics RI. Thanks to Lt. DeLima & Deputy Kingston for volunteering at this event!

Recently, Lt. DeLima & Deputy Kingston volunteered their time at the Pilgrim High School Class of '26 ‘Touch a Truck Fundraiser.’ It was a great day showcasing the inner workings of our prisoner transport bus to students & young children to help support their fundraising efforts

#RISheriffs are pleased to welcome 2 new Deputies from our lateral transfer hiring initiative. Dep. Jason Farias retired from Warwick PD after 20 years of service & Dep. Ehren Mallams from the Lane County Sheriff's Office in Eugene, OR where he was a Deputy Sheriff for 7.5 years.

The #RISheriffs had the honor of providing security and safety over the past two weekends for the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals. The Division worked alongside their Federal, State and Local law enforcement partners to ensure a safe environment for all who attended.

The Division had a hugely successful physical agility test turnout on Saturday in preparation of the 2026 RI Sheriffs Academy. Over 100 candidates turned out to participate in the agility test with a 60% success rate. Candidates will move on to the written exam phase.

#RISheriffs were honored to promote Nicodemus Manzotti to Sergeant today. He is a 7-year member of the Division and a 13-year veteran of the RI Army National Guard. He served as an FTO for the Division. He is assigned to the Garrahy Judicial Complex. We wish him much success.

Today, #RISheriffs received reaccreditation from the RI Accreditation Commission. “This award represents the Division’s commitment to adhering to the best standards & professional practices required by the RI Police Accreditation Commission" said Chief Paul M. Martellini.

Yesterday #RISheriffs promoted Edward Papineau to Sergeant. He is a 7-year Division member; a Field Training Officer; an Academy Cadre member; and a Background Investigator. He is currently assigned to the Garrahy Judicial Complex. We wish him success in his new role.
