Always bet on JavaScript.

More precisely: ARMv8.3 adds a new float-to-int instruction with errors and out-of-range values handled the way that JavaScript wants. The previous insns to get JavaScript's semantics were much slower. JavaScript's numbers are double by default so it needs this conversion a lot.

@onegraphio is heavily, heavily built in @reasonml by the way! Creating consistency in a graph this size without it would have been a huge challenge.

Been working with ReasonML more intensely over the last couple of days. If you're already using Flow or TypeScript, then give ReasonML a try if you haven't. No need to go full in, build a small example in JavaScript and then build the same in ReasonML for learning purposes.

If there's one constant in Software Development, it's change. Typed #FunctionalProgramming helps me adapt to change by giving me fearless refactoring. No other paradigm comes close.

It's a fascinating time for OCaml. OCaml 4.07 was released yesterday, Dune 1.0 today, and OPAM 2.0 will be released soon. Also, multicore has a clear roadmap which will bring, among other things, an Effect System to OCaml.

Nice, my #OCaml code finally got deployed to staging... a socket server for executing OCaml & Reason code, shipped as an "ocaml script", embedded in some serious Clojure infrastructure... can't wait to use the actual product 🙌

If you just compare a day of JS to day of Reason: you're missing out. Reason is build upon a foundation that places maintainability first which shines if you use it for a longer period.

People are already replying to tell me that this is unfair; TS is compiled. OK. Here are some other runtimes for hello world. Each includes full compile-link-execute cycle. Clang: 39 ms (0.028x TS) Golang: 104 ms (0.073x TS) Haskell: 146 ms (0.10x TS) OCaml: 15 ms (0.011x TS!)

So I've been working on this new language server for @reasonml, and I just got "rename across files" working -- not just for variables and types, but also constructors and attribute names! Pretty psyched about the possibilities
