I did an oversight check at the Northwest State Correctional Facility, which is contracting with ICE. It's a state facility but houses ICE detainees. My goal was to meet with folks and make sure the conditions and medical care for detainees are up to par. Here are my takeaways:
Great news for everyone who rents in California. Price fixing through algorithms is illegal collusion that raises rent across the board. We need to ban it in every state.
California has now banned algorithmic price fixing. The state has outlawed the practice of landlords colluding to raise prices using rental software and AI. This is a huge victory for renters in the biggest state in the country.
