The #Roman city of #Jerash (Jordan). At its height, it had a population of up to 20,000, with numerous temples, theatres, & a hippodrome. It was one of the Decapolis cities - an informal league of 10 semi-autonomous cities on the eastern frontier of the Empire #AncientSiteSunday

While in Seville we viewed this 3rd Century #Roman mosaic, the Triumph of Bacchus, in the Archaeological Museum. The triumph is Bacchus`s conquest of India & he is driving a carriage pulled by tigers, alongside a satyr. You can read more by @carolemadge - buff.ly/2QamdyG

Now this is unusual, the tesserae used for the figure are larger than those for the background. I can only assume they used tesserae cut for different projects to put this one together.
