During a @CommonsHCLG evidence session we suggest that Government should offer buyback to shared owners who are trapped in increasingly unaffordable / unsuitable homes. @mtpennycook @SteveReedMP @HomesEngland #SharedOwnership #AffordableHomes

In evidence to the @CommonsHCLG, Sue Phillips criticised a 'robbing Peter to pay Paul' social housing culture, saying social rent tenants shouldn't be expected to subsidise shared owner repair costs, and shared owners shouldn't subsidise social rent homes.

Yesterday we gave evidence to @CommonsHCLG on the affordability of home ownership - from a shared owner perspective. We discussed factors impacting whether SO is affordable or not: new model v old model, short lease v long lease, timescale, income, location, etc. #SharedOwnership

Watch live in 45 minutes. Or watch the recording later if that’s more convenient.

We are taking evidence on shared ownership and mortgage finance as part of our inquiry on the affordability of home ownership. Watch at 10am on 18 November: parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/3d…

This morning, I spoke to a working single mum in London who has managed to buy a 1-bed shared ownership flat with help from her own parents Her son has the bedroom, she sleeps on a sofa bed in the kitchen/living room She worries she is “spoilt” for wanting a bedroom of her own

Shared owners — have your say. The government wants to know if “affordable home ownership” is truly affordable. This is your chance to tell MPs what works and what doesn’t. Closes 29 Nov 2025: forms.office.com/e/kA1tD0R1Me

In the 2023 report, ‘Shared Ownership: the consumer perspective’, we called for shared ownership to be taken out of assured tenancy status. It’s good to see the assured tenancy issue resolved by the new Renters’ Rights Act.

Good advice from @edinburghpaper - "Remember that shared ownership isn’t always cheaper than a regular mortgage when adding rent, service charges, and the mortgage repayments." #SharedOwnership edinburghnews.scotsman.com/lifestyle/home…

Sue Phillips, representing Shared Ownership Resources, will be giving oral evidence to the HCLG Committee next week, Tuesday 18th November - alongside NHF and NHQB - on the affordability of shared ownership. #SharedOwnership committees.parliament.uk/work/9247/affo…

A 2023 Shared Ownership Resources report - Shared Ownership: the consumer perspective - questioned the degree to which SO is affordable, fair, and a realistic pathway to full home ownership. It's good to see these questions gaining more traction. @FloEshalomi @SteveReedMP

Grateful to @CommonsHCLG Committee Chair @FloEshalomi for asking Housing Secretary @SteveReedMP about the long-term affordability of shared ownership. 🚫 Too many shared owners are trapped in homes they can no longer afford, with no viable exit route. @mtpennycook
