~ There are no Christian nations and therefore the US can be no more such a nation than is Russia or Czech Republic (75% atheist). ~ The success of the US was no more part of God’s plan than was the success of China or the lack of success or DRC.

You are not the chosen one.

Ugh. The success/numbers mentality in the Church is just killing my soul.

“Only when we can accept God as he is can we give up the desire for spiritual experiences that we can feel.” Thomas Keating

"The heart cannot love what the mind does not know" is a modern spin on Augustine's old quote, "you cannot love what you do not know." Can't help but note the difference 'tween them is our fixation on our minds. Oh, to restore the depths of spirit to Christianity!

"Christians would attain enlightenment — if only they knew how to read their own scriptures." Mystical advice from a Buddhist teacher, well worth considering. sbee.link/xa67pj98qc

"False unity is the work of force, violently imposed on divided entities which stubbornly refuse to be one. True unity is the work of love. It is the free union of beings that spontaneously seek to be one by self-transcendence." (Thomas Merton, "Loretto and Gethsemani")

Proud Poppa: My kids love Cutting Crew's "(I Just) Died In Your Arms." Pretty sure they don't know what it's really about... but I cherish their ignorant admiration.

This Lenten season of preparation "consists in receiving the gift of God's mercy -- a gift which we receive insofar as we open our hearts to it, casting out what cannot remain in the same room with mercy." - Thomas Merton, Seasons of Celebration

Abba Moses, one of the Desert Fathers, said: "One who is conscious of their own sins has no eyes for the sins of their neighbour."

I don't know what tomorrow holds. Today, I am a pastor in the UMC. I welcome all. I believe in fully including everyone in the church I serve. #ForEveryoneBorn #OneChurch4All

Fundamentalist Christians shouldn't want King Jesus to return to Jerusalem right now... cuz the closest thing we currently have to Babylon is Washington, DC....

Please RT if you think that every Senator should be given enough time to read a multi-trillion dollar piece of legislation.

This is so bad. We have just gotten list of amendments to be included in bill NOT from our R colleagues, but from lobbyists downtown. None of us have seen this list, but lobbyists have it. Need I say more? Disgusting. And we probably will not even be given time to read them.

UPDATE: Republicans finally released their 500-page tax cut bill—drafted ENTIRELY behind closed doors. We’re probably voting tonight, but NO ONE has read the bill! Unacceptable.

I was just handed a 479-page tax bill a few hours before the vote. One page literally has hand scribbled policy changes on it that can’t be read. This is Washington, D.C. at its worst. Montanans deserve so much better.
